ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave the relevant authorities instructions on Monday to take swift action against tax evaders and defaulters and those who assist them.
According to a press release from the PM Office media wing, the prime minister said, “Accelerate actions against tax defaulters and bring the tax evaders and their facilitators to book,” during a briefing from the finance ministry about the nation’s economy and the recent meeting with the IMF delegation.
“The economy of the nation can grow effectively when all parties involved fulfill their obligations. To contribute to the advancement of the country, all sectors should pay taxes,” he continued.
He claimed that because of the actions done in this area, the economy was headed toward stability and the stock market was doing well.
Foreign investment, according to the premier, is a sign of faith in the government’s programs.
He had already received an update on the state of inflation and economic data.
The prime minister was also informed during the meeting by the finance ministry of the actions being taken to combat tax evasion and those who aid in this type of fraud.
The prime minister emphasized that providing public relief should be the top priority and that every effort was being made to keep public pledges.
Additionally, he was pleased to see that the inflation rate had decreased from 38% to 7% and that the interest rate had been cut from 22% to 15%, all of which would encourage business and employment growth in the nation.
Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Dr. Mussadik Malik, Ali Pervaiz Malik, PM’s coordinator Rana Ahsan Afzal, and other high-ranking officials attended the meeting.
PM Shehbaz noted that record remittances and a spike in exports had raised foreign reserves. Additionally, he commended the provincial administration and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for their agricultural reforms.
In Bangladesh, dengue
In a separate statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lamented the deaths brought on by Bangladesh’s dengue outbreak.
The prime minister said on X that he was “deeply saddened by the loss of precious lives due to the dengue outbreak in Bangladesh.”
“We stand ready to assist in any way we can, and we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh during this difficult time,” he said.
