London: PML-N President Nawaz Sharif stated on Wednesday that the nation and democracy have suffered greatly as a result of the “mistakes” made by small-time persons in the past.
The PML-N leader said that Pakistan would have been an Asian Tiger or possibly a member of the G20 by now if it weren’t for that “disturbance” while speaking at a workers’ conference at a nearby hotel.
He did not specifically mention anyone, but it was clear from his remarks that he was speaking to the judiciary when he described events like his dismissal in the Panamagate case.
“It was carried out for personal gain rather than the good of the country. You recognize those faces… It’s regrettable that they placed the nation at risk and continued to send prime leaders home for their own small-scale personal gain,” he remarked.
He also lamented that a man like him was excluded from elections, dismissed as the party’s president, and permanently barred from politics. “What choices did these people make? Why was it necessary? This was done by whom? He inquired rhetorically, “Was it for the country or on a personal whim?”
He mentioned how one judge’s son had asked for money in exchange for election tickets in a string of references to what he called the “irregular conduct” of judges. This was a covert allusion to a supposedly recorded audio clip in which a voice claiming to be that of Najamus Saqib, the son of former CJP Saqib Nisar, could be heard requesting money from a PTI ticket applicant.
Additionally, he mentioned a judge who had been dismissed from office, referring to Mazahar Naqvi, a former SC judge, when he said, “Look at his assets, these are the people who have done this.”
“It hurts to think about these things; there is no way to adequately condemn these acts. It is wonderful that Pakistan is emerging from the dark and experiencing hope at this time. The nation prospers, and one hopes that the country does too. If we hadn’t been stopped, everyone would have had a job and a place to live.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and his daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, were by Mr. Sharif’s sides.
Maryam’s condition
Ms. Sharif denied health-related rumors in her statements. “Over the past eight or nine months, I have been working really hard. I had surgery last year to treat a thyroid condition. She stated, “People keep asking why I can’t get treatment at a hospital in Pakistan.”
She claimed that although Pakistan had handled all of her medical care, neither Switzerland or America, not even England, could treat her specific condition, which she dubbed “parathyroid.” She stated, “I don’t want to talk about my illness and play the victim.”
Ms. Sharif had responded to the health-related rumors the day before by stating, “My treatment is underway, but I am fine.”
Asif Khawaja heckled
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif was heckled by an unidentified guy on a London train in a video that went popular on social media on Wednesday.
In the footage, a man is seen filming the defense minister on a train. He then calls him derogatory things and threatens to assault him with a knife.
According to sources, the incident happened aboard the Elizabeth Line underground train in London a few days ago.
At the workers’ gathering later on Wednesday night, Mr. Asif, however, made no mention of this occurrence.
