Elahi Bux Soomro, a former speaker of the National Assembly (NA), passed away in Karachi on Wednesday, his relatives announced.
Sardarzada Maula Bux Soomro, the late political figure’s grandson, acknowledged his passing in a Facebook post.
He also mentioned that prayers would be said tomorrow at 1pm in honor of his grandfather.
In a statement, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori expressed his sorrow at Elahi’s passing.
The governor expressed his sadness at learning of the passing of the intelligent Elahi Bux Soomro, saying the late speaker was “always concerned for the people.”
Governor Tessori said, “We have lost a heartwarming personality today.”
Elahi would “always be remembered in the fondest of memories,” according to seasoned politician Javed Hashmi.
From 1997 to 2001, Elahi, a well-known political personality, was the NA speaker.
Numerous media sites published reports of his passing in January. His family member, however, had verified that the reports were false and that the former NA speaker was still alive at the time.
