ISLAMABAD: The federal government has chosen to use the Frontier Constabulary to safeguard the infrastructure of the electricity company and file a lawsuit against the forcible takeovers of grid stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following months of deliberation.
Since the general election, the PML-N-led federal administration and the PTI provincial government have disagreed on this matter.
The PM-formed committee’s deliberations led to the power division’s Thursday letter to the chairman of Peshawar Electric Supply Company’s (Pesco) board of directors requesting stringent action against those responsible for the forced takeover of grid stations, according to sources within the division.
It said that “FIRs shall be registered against the perpetrators, without fear or favor,” and that the power company should apply for a FIR under Section 22-B of the Code of Criminal Procedure Code with the appropriate sessions judges if the local police declined to press charges.
According to the letter, Pesco should retain “experienced legal counsel” and file a plea with the Peshawar High Court if a FIR is still not registered.
In order to secure grid stations and other corporate properties, the power division has also requested that the Pesco chairman submit the necessary guidelines for the deployment of FC, which is overseen by the Ministry of Interior.
The letter further stated that the issue will thereafter be brought up with the Ministry of Interior about the deployment of FC soldiers.
