ISLAMABAD / PESHAWAR: On Thursday, in a case involving the recovery of alcohol and guns, an Islamabad court revoked the arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur after the Peshawar High Court decided to grant him protective release.
The KP chief minister was the subject of non-bailable arrest warrants issued by judge Shaista Khan Kundi on Wednesday due to his non-attendance at earlier proceedings.
The attorney representing Mr. Gandapur, Raja Zahoorul Hassan, contended in court on Thursday, stating that the trial court had sufficient authority to examine the judgment made by the additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) hearing the appeal requesting suspension of the arrest warrants.
He stated that his client had agreed to appear before the trial court when the time came and had received protective bail from the PHC. He gave the judge his word that the chief minister of KP would be before the court on September 21.
The judge postponed the hearing till the specified date and revoked the arrest warrants.
safeguarding bail
The CM was earlier granted protective/transit bail by a division bench of the Peshawar High Court, which was made up of Justices Syed Arshad Ali and Shahid Khan. This order prevented the CM from being arrested by law enforcement.
The bench declared that the protective bail’s duration will be specified in its comprehensive order sheet.
The bench gave Mr. Gandapur instructions to appear before the appropriate Islamabad court by September 21 in the matter for which his arrest warrants had been issued.
Together with Mr. Gandapur, advocates Alam Khan Adenzai and Ali Zaman went before the bench, arguing that the petitioner had been wrongly accused of political wrongdoing in dozens of cases.
According to them, the petitioner has already appeared in court in a number of locations around the nation, most notably in Islamabad and Punjab, and has been granted pre-arrest release in almost 100 of those instances.
