LAHORE: According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the second phase of SIM blocking for mobile phones has begun in an effort to stop unlawful use. This was announced on Monday.
Users whose national identity cards expired before 2017 and who have not yet renewed them will have their SIMs disabled throughout this phase.
In order to prevent their SIMs from being blocked, the representative asked individuals to renew their ID cards. First, the regulator stopped issuing SIM cards that were not valid and SIM cards that were issued with expired ID cards.
The SIM cards registered in the names of the deceased would be disabled during the third phase.
Based on Nadra’s data, unlawful SIMs are being stopped, according to a PTA representative. Fake SIMs are also used in tax fraud and other illicit activities.
The spokesman further stated that prior to the process, users whose connections are being stopped will receive a notice on their numbers.
