LONDON: At least four people were hurt on Wednesday when several military horses—one of which was drenched in blood—ran uncontrolled through the streets of central London.
The horses are part of the Household Cavalry, which performs ceremonial duties and serves as the official bodyguard for the British queen. Less than a mile from Buckingham Palace, at the Hyde Park barracks, is where they are stationed.
The strange sights took place in the middle of London, close to Buckingham Palace and the British government’s headquarters, when the escaped animals sprinted past confused commuters on their way to work.
“Several military working horses broke loose this morning during a routine exercise.” As of right moment, every horse has been found and brought back to camp, according to a statement from a British army official.
“Several staff members and horses have sustained injuries, and they are receiving the necessary medical care.” According to medical authorities, four persons were hurt and were sent to the hospital.
Images on television showed a black horse and a saddled white horse that appeared to be covered in blood as they ran across the roadway.
