KARACHI: An autopsy revealed that the suspect, who was discovered dead on Monday in the lock-up of the Darakshan police station, had been tortured to death. The body had several injuries from blunt and hard objects.
According to police surgeon Summaiya Syed, Moiz Naseem’s post-mortem examination was conducted by a board of four doctors in front of a court magistrate.
The four members of the board, which included Drs. Kamran, Osama, and Sono Mal, were led by Dr. Summaiya.
There were several wounds on his entire body. “Natural causes were not the cause of death,” she said.
The man suffered injuries to his hands and was struck in the head with sticks, according to the police surgeon.
According to her, the test revealed 13 distinct injuries.
She stated, “All samples have been gathered for a chemical, histopathology, and DNA analysis.”
SHO detained for homicide
The chief mohrir Faisal Leghari and SHO Ali Raza Leghari of the Darakhshan police station were taken into custody, according to DIG-South Syed Asad Raza.
He added that they were the subject of an illegal detention and murder case.
He said that following the suspect’s arrest in an extortion case, the SHO failed to turn him over to the police investigation section.
Following his appointment as the inquiry officer by Karachi police commissioner Imran Yaqoob Minhas, DIG-West Irfan Ali Baloch began looking into the custodial death.
He gathered all of the station’s CCTV footage and documented the concerned police officers’ remarks.
He claimed that despite the victim’s arrest on extortion allegations, preliminary examinations revealed a financial disagreement between the deceased and the complainant.
