A pickup that plunged down a canyon in Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday claimed the lives of at least eight passengers, including women and children.
Speaking for Rescue 1122, Niaz Muhammad Khan informed Dawn.com that the pickup vehicle was headed to Shangrai Kandao from Buner’s Sawari neighborhood when it was involved in the deadly collision.
According to him, the bodies of the departed—two males, two women, and one woman—were taken to their residences in Shangrai Kandaw.
According to the Rescue 1122 representative, the pickup’s mechanical malfunction or the driver’s loss of control caused the truck to plunge down a 1600-foot-deep chasm from the uneven, crumbling road.
The deceased were identified by the spokesman as citizens of Shahi village in Shangrai Kandao.
The bodies were given to family members, according to Sub-divisional Police Officer Amjad Khan, who told Dawn.com that a preliminary report had been filed at the Gul Bandai police station and that an inquiry will be conducted further.
A bus in Khanpur tehsil plunged into a canyon last month, killing five people and injuring 19.
The recent downpour has severely damaged most of the connection roads in North Pakistan’s mountainous provinces, making travel on them hazardous and challenging.
