GWADAR / QUETTA: Following gunfire and explosions that shook the town late on Monday night, security personnel reported to have stopped an armed terrorist attack at a naval airfield close to Turbat.
Dawn was informed by Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani that there had been reports of explosives and an intense firefight from the Turbat airport area.
He remarked over the phone from Turbat, “The armed men attacked from three sides of the airport boundary, but security forces responded immediately and foiled their attempt to infiltrate the premises.”
He stated that no dead or injured had been brought to the district hospital as of the time of going to press, but he did not provide any numbers of casualties.
One of the largest naval air stations in the nation, PNS Siddique, was reportedly the attack’s target.
Security officials declared on Monday night that “six terrorists have been killed outside of the Turbat airport boundary, ensuring the safety of the base.” They also added that the terrorists had been effectively isolated by the navy’s special services group and FC’s special operation wing.
They declared, “No loss of sensitive naval installations reported.”
Residents reported hearing more than a dozen explosions in Turbat town, and the gunfire started at around 10 p.m. and continued well into the night.
The Majeed Brigade of the outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the assault.
But until the story went to publication, neither ISPR nor the Balochstani administration had provided an official statement.
