A man working with the Economic Reconstruction Agency of the Jammu and Kashmir government was allegedly thrashed by the Central Reserve Police Force men after he refused to supply them electricity.
A news agency reported that during the dead of the night CRPF troopers allegedly thrashed Bashir Ahmed Dar and his family after he didn’t oblige with their order to supply electricity to their bunker in uptown Batamaluen.
Dar, who operates a dewatering pump station looked after by ERA, said during the night gun touting CRPF troopers of 73rd Battalion barged into his station and demanded restoration of electricity to their bunker. “When I refused to do so they beat me up and entered into my house which is located near the pump station and thrashed my wife and children,” he said.
A frightened Dar added he is not authorized to supply electricity to the bunker or any other house.
“They were drunk and did not listen to us. CRPF personnel abused and thrashed us and smashed the window panes of our house,” Dar said, adding he fears for his life.
He said that he lodged a formal complaint against the CRPF ‘hooliganism’ in the police station. “Police visited the spot on Wednesday morning and admonished the CRPF troopers,” he said.
CRPF spokesperson Kishor Prasad said the commandant of the troops has talked to the complainant and assured him of swift action against anyone found guilty.
