Apr 4: Protest demonstrations and clashes erupted in north Kashmir town of Baramulla and several other areas between the police and youths, when people were protesting against the arrest of youth.
During the day long clashes, more than five people including two cops got injured, after police prevented them from holding protest demonstration against the incident.
Clashes erupted at Baramulla, after police foiled the attempt of youths for holding protestdemonstrations against the arrests in the township. Police fired smoke shells and resorted to lathicharge against the protesters.
Reports said that a large number of youths took to the streets in Baramulla township soon after the Friday prayers. When the youth reached near Cement Bridge, the police did not allow them to proceed and burst dozens of smoke shells towards the protesters. The protesters also pelted stones towards the police.
The clashes continued for several hours. During these clashes several youth received injuries including two cops.
Reports of protest against the arrest of the youths have also been reported from Bandipora and several other areas. The people in these areas took to the streets after Friday prayers against the fresh arrests. The police resorted to lathi charge. The protesters also pelted stones towards the police and other security agencies.
Police today arrested two Muslim League activists for allegedly instigating protests in Naidkhai town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district following the killing of a youth in forces firing last month.
On March 14, Farhat Ahmad Dar, 18, was shot dead by the government forces near Naidkhai when the area was witnessing protests. Police had said that a group of youth had attacked a police vehicle on March 14 and they had fired in air in self-defense causing the death of the teenager.
Farhat’s killing also triggered massive protests across north Kashmir, prompting the administration to order a probe with Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Bandipora as the enquiry officer. After the incident, police had filed an FIR 61/2014. Later, police booked four Muslim League activists under sections307, 148, 149, 152, 336 and 427 RPC for allegedly trying to set ablaze a police van during protests.
General Secretary of Muslim League, Mehraj-ud-Din Nanda of Hajin, Bandipora was arrested when he was on way to Bait-ul Mukarram Masjid in the neighbouring Baramulla district to offer congregational Friday prayers. Nanda, who was on way to Masjid to offer Friday prayers was
bundled into a police van and whisked away.
Another activist of Muslim League, identified as Asadullah Parray, son of Abdul Gani was arrested after a police party in civvies raided his house at Hajin late this evening, source said.
Besides Nanda and Parray, two more Muslim League activists identified as Showkat Hakeem of Rakh Hajin, and Sajad Ahmad Nawoo of Naidkhai have been booked for instigating violence.
