RAWALPINDI: After arriving in Canada, a second member of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cabin crew is said to have vanished while performing their duties.
Maryam Raza took PIA aircraft PK-782 from Islamabad to Toronto on Monday, however she did not show up for work on the flight PK-784 back to Karachi.
Upon opening her hotel room, the authorities discovered her uniform along with a message that said, “Thank you, PIA.”
When Ms. Raza first started working for the national flag carrier fifteen years ago, she was assigned to the Islamabad to Toronto route.
According to a representative for the airline, this is the second instance of a PIA stewardess “vanishing” after arriving in Canada this year.
Officials attribute this trend to Canada’s lenient asylum laws, which provide asylum upon entry.
An identical situation occurred last month when an air hostess arrived in Canada and neglected to show up for the return flight.
A minimum of seven PIA crew members personnel vanished from sight in Canada during their flight duties last year.
A representative for the national carrier claims that one of the flight attendants who had absconded while on duty a few years prior has since relocated to Canada and is now “advising” other crew members considering applying for asylum.
In order to prevent similar occurrences in the future, he continued, the PIA management has been working with Canadian authorities.
