KHYBER: On Wednesday, the Bara police apologized for their actions toward a local woman after a raid on her home in order to detain a suspect who was suspected of having ties to extremist organizations.
According to sources, Rahmatullah was arrested by police during a nighttime search on a residence in the Sipah region. Rahmatullah was suspected of having participated in certain sabotage actions in Bara recently.
They alleged that when the accused’s mother attempted to thwart her son’s detention, the police beat her and hurt her. After the incident was shared on social media, locals became enraged.
Then, on Wednesday morning, a large group of enraged tribesmen gathered at Khyber Chowk in Bara Bazaar and blocked the major route in protest, calling for an inquiry into the claimed misconduct by the police against the tribeswoman.
The leader of the protest, MPA-elect Abdul Ghani, threatened to keep blocking the road if the police did not accede to their “just” demands.
In addition, the demonstrators asked that the arrested individual appear in court rather than being held in a secret location.
After the police apologized to the woman who had been harmed, gave her family two lambs in accordance with tribal custom, and threatened to file a formal complaint against the officers involved in the incident, the demonstration was called off after more than six hours.
A foreigner was slain by unknown gunmen in Bara on Wednesday. Mohammad Arshad was instantly killed by assailants on a motorcycle who opened fire on him in the Alangudar region, according to the police.
