ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tea Party (PTI), called for Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to quit on Tuesday, citing the “controversial” official as the cause of the post-election chaos.
Afterwards his discussion with PTI ex-chairman Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, Barrister Gohar Khan said in a media appearance that the head of the Election Commission of Pakistan was “the primary person” responsible for the current political unrest in the nation and had grown controversial due to accusations made against the election monitor.
The PTI leader said that the ECP “badly failed” to carry out its mandate. He stated that the ECP was in charge of assembling the results in accordance with Form 45.
The PTI leader also brought up the unproven accusations made by the previous commissioner of Rawalpindi, claiming he had sought protection for the former commissioner out of fear for his life.
Recall that Liaquat Ali Chattha, the commissioner for Rawalpindi, had charged Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and the head of the ECP with election manipulation. Nonetheless, the CEC and the CJP refuted the claims.
Barrister Gohar claims the panel “badly failed” to carry out its mandate, and the party raises concerns for Bushra’s well-being.
According to Mr. Gohar, the deal with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) was completed, and a request for reserved seats on the SIC platform will be made shortly. He hoped the PTI would not lose its allocated seats due to the ECP.
He stated, “We believe the reserved seats will be allocated accordingly. We have sent a list of 50 MNAs to the ECP.” The PTI had said a day earlier that it was joining forces with the SIC to assert its entitlement to reserved seats in the National Assembly and all provinces.
Bushra is under threat
Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, was allegedly in danger of losing her life, according to a statement released by the PTI. Following her conviction, Bushra Bibi’s Banigala home was turned into a sub-jail, and she was placed in “solitary confinement.” The PTI said that Bibi had been experiencing “severe pain for the last six days” as a result of eating allegedly “substandard, harmful, and poisonous food.”
The PTI spokesman demanded that the court and jail administration take “much-needed measures to ensure the protection of the former first lady’s health and life.” The former first lady was allegedly “being deprived of her lawful and constitutional right to undergo a medical examination,” according to the spokeswoman.
As part of a “deliberate plan to harm her,” he bemoaned the fact that her family was being prevented from meeting Bushra Bibi, a clear violation of both the Constitution and prison policies.
The spokesperson asserted that Bushra Bibi’s husband and party leader Imran Khan were the target of a “attempt to demoralize” by confining her at the Banigala mansion.
