Three days after her husband’s death in an Arctic prison, Alexei Navalny’s widow announced on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had murdered her husband, even as she promised to continue his work.
“Three days prior, Vladimir Putin murdered my spouse, Alexei Navalny,” Yulia Navalnaya said, fighting back emotions in a video speech that was released today.
According to jail officials, Navalny passed away after going for a stroll in his jail colony in Kharp, which is located inside the Arctic Circle, 1,200 kilometers northeast of Moscow.
During three years of suffering and torture, “Alexei died in a jail colony,” Navalnaya announced on Monday.
Navalnaya promised to carry on her husband’s job after supporting him against Putin for more than ten years.
“We must fight harder and more ferociously than before—that is the most essential thing we can accomplish for Alexei as well as ourselves,” she declared.
“We must take advantage of every chance to fight to retake our nation, to fight against corruption, injustice, and war, as well as to fight for fair and free elections and the right to free speech.”
She also promised to find those responsible for her husband’s death.
The reason behind Putin’s death of Alexei three days earlier is known to us. We will undoubtedly ascertain the precise perpetrator and method of this crime’s execution. We’re going to reveal faces and identities,” she declared.
The Kremlin criticized Western countries that have claimed Putin is to blame for Navalny’s death while announcing on Monday that an inquiry into his death was still underway.
The fact that Russian officials have not yet turned over Navalny’s body to his mom or attorney has infuriated his followers, who claim the decision is an attempt by the “killers” to “cover their tracks.”
