SRINAGAR: Authorities did not allow Octogenarian separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani, to address a press conference at his residence in Hyderpora, Srinagar on Monday.
Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference was scheduled to address media at 12:30 PM.
Police did not allow media persons to reach Geelani’s residence and they were returned from the airport road. “We stayed there for some time but repeatedly denied by police to proceed towards the venue,” said a correspondent who among other media persons had reached Hyderpora, to cover the press conference.
Geelani was however, taken for a medical check up to SKIMS, early Monday under police custody.
“It is mere frustration of the so called government to not even allow Geelani Sahab to talk to media,” Hurriyat (G) spokesman, Ayaz Akbar told Kashmir Life.
Geelani is undergoing house arrest from December 5, a day before his scheduled Tral visit.
Geelani, was not later allowed to hold public meetings in Bandipora and Srinagar as well.
After his ‘freedom’ from 235 day long house arrest on October 29, 2013 Geelani addressed massive public meetings in Sopore, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama and Kupwara.
