Facebook is testing a feature where media outlets can charge reader to access their stories. It means that Facebook will limit the number of published stories that can be read for free. Campbell Brown, Facebook’s head of news partnerships confirmed this news and revealed that the subscription service will be tested around October. Facebook has also briefed publishers on the subscription service.

The social media giant has told publishers that they will be able to show at least 10 freearticles every month. The company will disclose Financial and payments details later. However publishers will have full access to their subscriber data.
Brown Said in a Conference:
“One of the things we heard in our initial meetings from many newspapers and digital publishers is that ‘we want a subscription product. we want to be able to see a paywall in Facebook. We are launching a subscription product.”
With this new subscription feature, Facebook has drafted another way to get profit. Undoubtedly Facebook has become the major source of news but many publishers complaint that they loose revenue when their stories are published on Facebook for free.
Facebook is already under limelight because the spread of fake news, fabricated online articles and spread of misinformation. In this regard this a positive step to build the soft image of the largest social media platform.
Facebook is also testing mid-roll video ads with a handful of publishers that it plans to eventually roll out to everyone.
