Kashmir is one of the most famous states in world, mostly for its resilience and courage in the face of tyranny. Looking back, in 1846; the English sold the state of Jammu & Kashmir to Gulab Singh for just 75 Lakh Royal Coins. At the time, Jammu and Kashmir constituted of 84471 square miles, it was sold at the price of 155 rupees per square mile. In 1925, Hari Singh ruled Kashmir, and allowed Hindus to persecute Muslims extensively. In 1931, a mosque was destroyed by Hindus in the city of Dayasi. And then in the city of Konami, Muslims were restricted from offering Jumm’ah Payer by the use of force. These disrespectful acts urged Muslims to protest against the government. On 13 July 1931, Muslims protested to demand the release of a freedom fighter from jail, police opened fire to sparse the processions, as a result, 27 people were killed and several injured.
On 14th August 1931, Kashmir day was celebrated for the first time in history. And it is a coincidence that after exactly 16 years, Pakistan became an independent state. Some Muslim leaders met with Raja Hari Singh on October 1931 to resolve the issue, but since it is impossible to convince stubborn people with logic, they returned unsuccessful. This agitated Muslims and they started protesting.
To control this situation, British Army took action and filled the jails with Muslim prisoners. 5 thousand Muslims were arrested from different provinces and in Punjab 45 thousand were arrested. With the passage of time the demand for separation in India got popular and Muslim League grew stronger than ever. In 1945 elections, Muslim League Won 80% seats in Kashmir, after which Hindus started arresting Muslim politicians.
On 3 June 1947, the formula to divide India got approval, 562 states gained freedom to decide whether to become part of Pakistan or India. At that time in Kashmir, 80% of Kashmiri population were Muslims, thus by all means and as the policy insisted, Kashmir had to become part of Pakistan.
On 14th August 1947 when it was announced to divide the Sub-Continent, division of Gurdaspur which had maximum Muslim population was given to India without explanation, because it was the only route to Kashmir. After the “Standstill Agreement” with Pakistan, Hari Singh decided to invade and massacre the Muslims of Kashmir. The genocide that took place and the discourteous acts they did with Muslim women are engraved in the painful history of Kashmir. When these beasts tried to commit the same genocide to the city of Poonch, Muslims fought back and defeated Hari Singh in many areas. After this, a worried Hari Singh asked for India’s help. India promised him help on the condition of former to annex Kashmir to India, which he did.
After this, India began landing its fighter jets at the Srinagar airport, and started to deploy Indian troops across Jammu & Kashmir. This initiated the most painful and the worst form of state terrorism in the history of world. Thus began the struggle of Kashmiris against tyranny.
