If you work in the UAE and love to read, you’re very lucky indeed.
A new UAE law now allows employees to take a break during work and pick up a book.
The UAE National Reading Law, the first of its kind in the region, is aimed at encouraging reading habits among people.
“Our objective is to make reading a daily habit in our people,” said the President of the UAE, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who has spearheaded this legislation, as quoted by Time Out Dubai.
“The law will encourage the private sector to invest in the establishment of libraries and cultural centres. This will be done by providing the private sector with facilities, incentives and discounts,” said the Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
“Our goal is for 2016 to be the start of a sustainable cultural change among generations – a change that consolidates the importance of reading, celebrates knowledge and boosts the status of reading,” he added.
