ABU DHABI: Pakistan beat West Indies by 133 runs in the second Test to go 2-0 up in the three-match series, as leg-spinner Yasir Shah shone with a six-wicket haul in the second innings.
With four wickets in the first innings, Yasir’s tally rose to 10 as the Green Shirts restricted West Indies to 322. The spinner sent to the pavilion West Indies captain Jason Holder (16), Cummins (0), Chase (20), Samuels (23), Johnson (9) and ended Jermaine Blackwood’s resistance, bowling him out at 95.
Kraigg Brathwaite earlier scored 67 before falling lbw to Nawaz.
Pakistan had declared their innings at 227-2, setting West Indies a target of 456. Asad Shafiq and Younis Khan remained not out at 58 and 29, respectively.
Openers Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam hit half-centuries to help Pakistan strengthen their grip on the match. Azhar fell on 79.
Pakistan won the first Test — a day-night affair played with a pink ball — by 56 runs to take a 1-0 advantage.
“We are in a commanding position,” said Shah after the first innings. “We know the pitch will help spinners from tomorrow onwards so if we get a lead of 500 then we can press for a win.
“It was good to get four wickets but I was facing a bit of difficulty after bowling with the pink ball in the first Test and then switching to red here.”
Shah also dismissed Roston Chase (22) and Shai Hope (11) in the first innings while fast bowler Sohail Khan bowled Miguel Cummins (three) to finish with 2-35.
The third and final Test will be played in Sharjah from October 30-November 3.
