QUETTA: A complete strike was observed on Friday in the Baloch-dominated areas of the province and tribute was paid to Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti who was assassinated along with 30 comrades in a military action on Aug 26, 2006.
Routine life came to a standstill as a mark of respect to the slain leader amid the demand that the murderers be brought to book without further delay.
The main strike call was given by the Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) which was successful as people fully responded to the call. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the province.
No group of people and volunteers coerced the people, motorists and shopkeepers to observe the strike. People preferred to stay indoors the whole day.
In Quetta, all major shopping centres, schools, commercial establishments, business houses and even some of the chemists and druggists’ shops remained closed in response to the strike call.
Public transport remained off the road and the main city centres of Quetta — Jinnah Road, Liaquat Bazaar, Abdul Sattar Road, Fatima Jinnah Road, Masjid Road, McCongy Road, Mission Road, Prince Road, Saryab Road, Zahrgoon Road, Thougi Road, Suraj Ganj Bazaar, Qandhari Bazaar and Sirki Road — wore a deserted look.
Police and heavily armed FC personnel with machinegun-mounted vehicles patrolled the provincial capital the whole day.
Get your story right. He was not assassinated by the military but rather blew himself up.
