Ministry of Information Technology and
Telecommunication will provide internet facility to 90 per cent areas
of Balochistan by the year 2018.
An official of the ministry said that work on basic infrastructure to
provide the internet facility to various areas of Balochistan was
underway.
To a question he said, Universal Service Fund Company (USFCo) 46th
board discussed development of telecommunication services in un-served and under-served areas across the country.
He said, that the Board of Directors took in to consideration the
important upcoming projects of USFCo including the Telecenters, small
lots, establishment of computer labs initially in 100 girl’s schools
run under Islamabad Capital Administration and the launch of
Broadband for sustainable development projects for providing 3G services in North and South Waziristan.
To a question, he said Rs 20 billion worth projects are in progress
under the USF throughout the country and these would be further
enhanced.
“We have Rs 70 billion under Universal Service Funds (USF) out of
which Rs 20 billion of are being used for the extension of telecom
services to un-served areas.”
To a question, she said that 2 and 3G service will be introduced in
remote areas of Balochistan.
He said that by the end of 2018, the government will provide telecom
services to each and every un-served ‘Moza’ of the country.
