COLOMBO: Pakistan on Wednesday leapfrogged Australia to secure the second position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings after Sri Lanka completed a 3-0 whitewash over Steven Smith’s side with a 163-run victory.
Following India’s series victory against West Indies during the ongoing four-match Test series, Australia had to win their final Test against the Lankans to stay at the top of the table. However, their defeat meant that Virat Kohli’s men have regained the number one spot.
Pakistan will keep an eye on the final Test between West Indies and India that starts Thursday, as a draw or the latter’s defeat will see Pakistan top the table.
