ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Absar Alam on Friday said a ban will be placed upon television programmes portraying re-enactment of criminal activities, effective from the first day of Ramazan.
“Airing interviews of abuse victims will be prohibited too,” Alam said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad. “TV channels should respect the holy month of Ramazan,” he added.
Moreover, news and entertainment channels will be restricted from showing content that dramatise suicides, rapes or other criminal acts.
“Channels violating the PEMRA guidelines will be taken off air for one month,” Absar Alam said. “PEMRA will ensure that the sanctity of private lives is maintained.”
He said that if a channel keeps violating the PEMRA’s guidelines permission would be sought to ban it permanently.
