MUZAFFARGARH: The National Accountability Bureau has directed the Federal Investigation Agency to hand it over two suspended officials of the National Bank of Pakistan allegedly involved in the Rs420 million pension scam.
Five NBP officials had already been suspended from service for allegedly embezzling funds meant for pensioners.
A source said the finance secretary had removed accounts officer-II Mamtaz Qaisrani from service for his alleged involvement in the scandal. He said the NAB director general had called district accounts officer-1 Anwarul Haq Chishti and NBP staffers at his office to get information about the pension scam. The bureau has written a letter to FIA seeking custody of the two bank officials who had been arrested over a month ago.
District accounts officer-1 Anwarul Haq Chishti had detected the pension fraud and informed Punjab Accountant General Zafar Hasan who asked Chishti to get a case registered with FIA and NAB.
About 10,000 pensioners draw money totalling Rs100m per month from Muzaffargarh main branch of NBP.
