ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will now address the National Assembly on Monday instead of Friday, NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said, adding that “efforts have been made to ensure a smooth turn of events at the lower house during the premier’s address.
While briefing the media on Thursday regarding the recent developments, Sadiq said he met leaders from opposition parties — including Shireen Mazari, Tariq Bashir Cheema, Naveed Qamar and others — and convinced them to maintain discipline during the assembly’s proceedings.
The opposition leaders have given assurances that they will not create any disturbance on the floor of house during the prime minister’s address.
“I have also spoken with government lawmaker to ensure a smooth turn of events on the given day,’ he added.
Earlier, the prime minister had announced to attend the National Assembly Session on Friday where he was expected to respond to the queries raised by the opposition parties over Panama leaks.
Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani has also demanded that Nawaz sharif, as a member of parliament, should also appear in the Senate.
The opposition staged a walk out from both the Senate and National Assembly and announced a boycott of proceedings until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came to the house and explained his position over his family’s offshore holdings.
