ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for London on Wednesday for his routine medical check-up repeatedly postponed due to political engagements.
According to the PM House, the prime minister would undergo a detailed medical check-up.
However, sources in the ruling party said the PM was suggested to spend a week in London to relieve his ‘stress and anxiety’ because of the situation developed after Panama leaks.
A massive leak of 11.5 million tax documents on April 3 exposed the secret offshore dealings of world leaders and celebrities, also naming three of the premier’s children for owning London real estate through offshore companies.
The PM would spend the week with his children at his London residence, sources said, adding the PML-N was unhappy of his decision to address the nation on the issue of Panama Papers. It was, however, suggested by daughter Maryam Nawaz to clear his position in public.
Last week, in a rare televised address to the nation, the premier had said a judicial commission headed by a former judge would investigate his family for any wrongdoing.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar would also visit the UK and USA, who apart from his meetings with IMF officials; would meet the prime minister, sources said.
“Dar is likely to apprise US authorities about PTI’s expected movement against the civilian government,” added the sources. “The PML-N believes the US should be taken on board regarding threat to democratic setup in the country.”
Making a public address on April 10, Imran Khan reiterated his demand for an impartial judicial inquiry and a forensic audit into the matter and that if this was not forthcoming, he urged the people “to rise before it is too late”.
