KARACHI: The counter terrorism department (CTD) of police has claimed to have arrested a group of terrorists planning attacks with the help of drone technology.
“Usman Naeem, Muhammad Umair and Imamuddin alias Mavia were arrested from district west, and Kalashnikov and TT pistols were recovered from their possession,” a statement issued by the Sectarian Intelligence Group (SIG) of CTD said on Tuesday.
According to CTD in-charge Ali Raza, Naeem, a BE degree-holder in mechanical engineering, led the group and was behind the plot to carryout the attack using the technology.
Naeem and Umair were also involved in supplying arms to banned outfits while Imam distributed hate material for a proscribed organisation, added the statement.
All three terrorists, the CTD said, were associated with the banned al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), commander Fahad group.
Meanwhile, two suspected criminals were killed during an alleged encounter with police in Korangi Industrial Area.
According to Superintendent Police Farooq Awan, Shakoor alias Grenade and Anwar alias Dodo Mian were involved in murder, kidnappings and robberies.
The militants were also wanted for their involvement in the assassination of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Amanullah this year, he added.
Earlier on January 20, the CTD claimed to have arrested 11 militants and recovered huge quantity of explosive material, ammunition and hate literature from their possession.
