ISLAMABAD: The Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani Thursday said that Pakistan condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, adding the West should not link terrorism with one particular religion as the terrorism could not be linked with one geographic area, religion or ethnicity.
Rabbani expressed these view during a meeting with Ms Tawakkol Abdel-Salam Karman, Yemeni journalist, politician, senior member of Al-Islah Political Party, Human Rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate who visited Parliament House and called on him in his chamber along with Yemeni delegation.
The Senate chairman said that the Western countries needed to eliminate the rise of various racial and other discriminatory practices against Muslims and also need to review their selective implications of human rights’ violations and double standards for Palestine and Kashmir, which had aggravated some of the underlying ingredients of terrorism.
Rabbani also observed that situation in Middle East was worrisome because structure of some of the states had been destroyed which has led to chaos and terrorism.
He informed the Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize Laureate that how Pakistan was passing through an in transitional phase of consolidating the democratic roots after a long and audacious journey. Rabbani termed the 18th constitutional amendment a breakthrough in the constitutional history of Pakistan which has led Pakistan to practising participatory federalism.
Ms Tawakkol Abdel-Salam Karman said that she was really inspired by democratic struggle in Pakistan and achievements made on war against terrorism.
It may be added here that Ms Tawakkol Abdel-Salam Karman is the first Yemeni, the first Arab women and the second Muslim women to win a Nobel Prize and the second youngest Nobel Peace Laureate to date.
APP adds: Mian Raza Rabbani Thursday expressed great satisfaction over the recent development regarding the peaceful resolution of nuclear related issues of Iran and resultant lifting of economic sanctions.
He expressed hope that this will expedite the working on various projects between Pakistan and Iran, and will also increase cooperation in other economic spheres especially magnitude of trade between the two brotherly countries, said a press release.
He stated this in a meeting with Ambassador of Iran Alireza Haghighian who called on him in his chamber.
It may be added that Alireza Haghighian is leaving Pakistan within a week after completing his tenure as Ambassador to Pakistan.
Chairman Senate said: “We wish good luck to Mr Alireza Haghighian’s for next assignment and we would look forward to work with his successor for further strengthening of existing bilateral relation between Pakistan and Iran, particularly through enhancing parliamentary, diplomacy, exchange of parliamentary visits and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.”
