KARACHI: The death toll of Pakistani pilgrims from deadly stampede that occurred in Mina during Hajj on September 24 has climbed to 87 with scores of others still missing after the tragedy.
Manzoor ul Haq, Pakistan’s ambassador to Riyadh, confirmed the death toll, saying that 55 pilgrims were still missing.
The envoy said that 32 Pakistani pilgrims were buried in Saudi Arabia.
“Out of 47 injured Pakistanis, 40 have been discharged and seven were still under treatment,” he said.
Nearly 800 Hajj pilgrims embraced martyrdom when the deadly stampede broke out at Mina during final rituals on March 24.
Saudi authorities ordered a probe into the tragedy, pledging that findings would be made public.
