SRINAGAR – An Indian Air Force aircraft – Mig-21 Bison – crashed on Monday in fields in Budgam district of Indian-held Jammu Kashmir, with the pilot managing to eject safely, the Press Trust of India news service reported.
The news agency reported that the aircraft had taken off from Srinagar airfield and was on a ‘routine training’ sortie. India’s military spokesman Colonel SD Goswami said that a Mig-21 aircraft crashed in Soibugh area of Budgam district at around 10:59am (IST) but there was no loss of life reported in the incident.
The news agency reported that the pilot managed to eject from the plane just in time and he was retrieved from the crash scene by an army helicopter. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash, Col Goswami said
