Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik said the joint declaration issued after bilateral meeting between of Modi and Sharif “disappointed Kashmiris.”
Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Friday said he did not expect any breakthrough in talks between Narendra Modi and Nawaz Sharif.
“These talks were held under international pressure. India and Pakistan have talked on Kashmir 150 times since 1947 and it seems the between the two countries have been turned into a mere tradition. We want to maintain that talks between the two countries will be futile without respecting the sentiments and acknowledging sacrifices of Kashmiris,” Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar quoted Geelani as saying.
“Hurriyat will continue to pursue the ongoing movement till Kashmiris are accorded their inalienable right to self-determination guaranteed by the United Nations.”
‘JOINT DECLARATION DISAPPOINTING’
Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik said the joint declaration issued after bilateral meeting between of Modi and Sharif “disappointed Kashmiris.”
“Issues and conflicts can only be resolved through dialogue. But the way this process has been turned as futile and non-serious in case of Kashmir has created doubts in the minds of common people,” he said. “The international community should play a constructive role in this regard.”
Commenting on recent meetings between Indian and Pakistani leadership, Malik said: “War cannot solve problems and it is only dialogue that resolves conflicts and issues, but for the success of dialogue it is equally important to have seriousness and focus on conflict resolution.”
Dialogue, Malik said, should not be for fun, time pass and putting real issues on backburner. “We want India and Pakistan to get together and resolve their issues but the leadership of two countries will have to demonstrate some magnanimity,” he said.
