A pedestrian, Zahoor Ahmad, 65, was killed after being run over by a speeding vehicle of an embassy official in the limits of Abpara police station on Friday. Police said that the car bearing registration number PE-214 was driven by a US diplomat named Monica, who is said to be a management secretary at the US embassy, hit Zahoor at the 7th Avenue.
The injured Zahoor, a resident of Kotli Sattian, Rawalpindi, was rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), but he succumbed to his injuries, officials said. Police officials said that they shifted the critically injured person to the hospital and the vehicle to Abpara police station. The diplomat was shifted to the US embassy by the embassy’s security guards. Public gathered at the scene of the accident and foiled the US diplomat’s attempt to flee the crime scene.
However, the diplomat was later released as she enjoys diplomatic immunity. We have and will continue to fully cooperate with the appropriate Pakistani authorities on the investigation. We will work through our local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns of those affected. We express our deepest regret for this terrible accident,” the statement said.
