ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday suspended the detention order for Zakhiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, Express Newsreported.
On December 19, the government detained Lakhvi under 3-Maintenance of Public Order (3MPO) for 30 days in Adiala jail, after he was granted bail by anti-terrorism court (ATC).
Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi issued notice to the federation in this regard and sought its reply till December 29 as the alleged mastermind of Mumbai attacks filed a petition in the court challenging his detention orders following approval of bail by the court.
The counsel for the petitioner – Raja Rizwan Abbasi – had essentially requested the court to annul the detention orders.
The basic objective of the detention orders issued after the attack of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar was to prevent Lakhvi from attending any public meeting and potentially regrouping in its aftermath, an official of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) confirmed.
