RAWALPINDI – General Raheel Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Tuesday visited the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Headquarters.
On arrival at headquarters, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhat, ISI Director General. The COAS was briefed in detail about the internal and external security situation of the country.
The COAS appreciated the role played by the ISI for national security and lauded the contributions and sacrifices of its officers and men towards strengthening the defence of the motherland.
Meanwhile, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt Gen. Rizwan Akhtar also called on President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The president felicitated Lt Gen. Rizwan Akhtar on his appointment as DG ISI and wished him well in the discharge of his new responsibilities. The president expressed confidence that professional expertise of Lt Gen. Rizwan Akhtar would provide an impetus to further strengthening the intelligence apparatus and defence of the country. Current security situation and professional matters also came under discussion during the meeting.
According to Afghan media reports, the Director General ISI Lt. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar also visited Kabul on Monday and met with officials of the Afghan National Unity Government.
