SUKKUR: Four suicide bombers stormed a regional headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), killing at least four people and injuring 35 others in Barrage Colony, Sukkur shortly after Iftar here on Wednesday, intelligence sources said.
The sources said that a suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle into the gate of ISI headquarters while two others detonated explosives rigged with their bodies inside the office.
They said that an alleged bomber was arrested following the explosions, which damaged several vehicles and buildings and leaving a deep crater near the ISI headquarters.
DIG Javed Odho said that the blasts targeted a compound containing offices of DIG, Commissioner and the ISI, country’s principal spy service. The officer said that the local ISI office might be the target of the attack, which left several people injured.
He said that a shootout took place between the security officials and terrorists after the explosions. Odho said that around two to three explosions took place but nature of the blasts was yet to be ascertained.
On the other hand Edhi sources said that a man was killed and 35 others injured in the attack. Sources said that the blasts caused damage to the ISI office.
Earlier, police and law enforcement agencies rushed to the site of the blasts and cordoned off the area. Emergency has been declared in all the hospitals of the city.
