Anantnag: In a major offensive, militants on Friday attacked a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy at Gorivan Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Jammu-Srinagar highway killing three BSF men and injuring ten others.
According to the Srinagar based BSF spokesman, militants attacked the BSF convoy near Gorivan area leaving 13 BSF men injured.
Head constables Giresh Shukla, Constable Dinesh Giri and Constable Mohinder Ram later succumbed to their injuries. He said that some of the BSF men are critical and are being treated at 92 Base Army hospital Badamibagh.
The sudden militant attack created panic in the area while people ran for cover. Eyewitnesses said that militants opened fire on a convoy bus that was jam packed.
After the attack, the militants reportedly managed to flee from the spot.
The Army, the counter insurgency force of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operation Group (SOG) and the CRPF cordoned off the area and started a combing operation, however no arrests have been made.
