LAHORE: Pakistan’s rice export revenues have reached $3.89 billion, possibly for the first time. This achievement is mostly attributable to favorable weather, the availability of agricultural inputs, and an Indian prohibition on the sale of non-Basmati rice.
Shehzad Ali Malik, the founder of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap), made this claim on Monday while announcing the uncontested election of Malik Faisal Jahangir as the new chairman of the organization.
Guests in attendance were former chairman Shahjahan Malik, Reap patron Pir Syed Nazim Shah, and departing senior vice-chairman Haseeb Khan.
According to Mr. Malik, the nation earned $3.89 billion from the export of 5.8 million tonnes of both Basmati and non-Basmati rice between July 2023 and June 2024. He expressed the expectation that the next chairman of Reap would make every effort to increase the annual aim for rice exports to $5 billion.
To reach the goal, Mr. Jahangir stated that he will concentrate on seed research and sustainable farming methods.
A 10-member managing committee that was elected without opposition was also revealed. Chaudhry Shafique, Maman Mandahar, Adnan Sheikh, Tayyab Bashir, Tariq Mehmood, Irfan Noor, Ishfaq Ali, and Waqar Ahmad were among the members-elect.
