According to a rescue official, a passenger bus headed for Rawalpindi plunged into a ravine in the Upper Kohistan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday evening, killing two persons and injuring 36 more.
A private company’s passenger bus carrying 38 people from Skardu to Rawalpindi plunged into a ravine close to the Shetial area in Upper Kohistan’s Harban tehsil, Rescue 1122 spokesperson Abdur Rehman informed Dawn.com.
He stated that 36 people were hurt in the collision and taken to the district headquarters hospital in Chilas, Diamer, while the bus driver and a passenger perished.
The deceased passenger was identified by the spokesperson as Sadaqat Hussain, a bus driver from Gilgit’s Dinor neighborhood, and Mohammad Nadeem, a resident of Vehari in Punjab.
The majority of the injured were from Skardu, four were from the Bisham Dandai region of Shangla, and two were from sections of Punjab province, Rehman told Dawn.com.
While the majority of the critically ill patients are stable, others are receiving surgery. According to the spokeswoman, the injured passengers included women and children.
Because of the rough terrain, bad roads, overloaded cars, and lax traffic laws, accidents are common in KP and the northern regions. These regions are especially accident-prone due to their narrow, curving roads, inclement weather, and fatigued drivers.
According to officials, a landslide struck a bus on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in the Dasu area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Kohistan district in September, killing three people—two of them were army personnel—and injuring one more.
Three people were killed when large boulders slammed a Northern Areas Transport Corporation passenger bus headed for Hunza, according to Upper Kohistan District Police Officer (DPO) Mukhtiar Ahmad, who spoke to Dawn.com.
According to him, one person was hurt, two of the dead were army men, and one was a civilian. According to Ahmad, the third deceased person was from Rawalpindi, while the other two were from Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to him, the injured and their remains were sent to the Dasu District Headquarters Hospital.
