LAHORE: Following a month-long “Suthra Punjab campaign” ordered by the chief minister, the Lahore debris Management Company (LWMC) declared that it has gathered 130,000 tons of solid debris from various parts of the city and dumped it at the Mahmood Booti landfill. According to LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Babar Sahib Din, the solid water comprised 25,000 tonnes that were gathered from around 400 open spaces.
The CEO informed the media that in addition to clearing construction trash from 245 locations throughout the city, the LWMC personnel also demolished greenbelts and other open spaces.
He claimed that as part of the month-long campaign, 1,100 km of highways were mechanically cleaned and 16,000 km of roads were mechanically swept.
During the drive, he added, 432 challans were issued for violating the Local Government Act, with fines above Rs 900,000; additionally, 77 FIRs were filed and more than 300 complaints about unlawful garbage dumping were addressed.
The CEO asserted, “During the campaign, at least 268 out of 274 union councils in Lahore have achieved zero waste status.”
He said, “We implore the public to assist with the ongoing cleaning initiatives and report any issues with cleanliness via the LWMC helpline 1139 or social media platforms.”
On the final day of the drive, he claimed, the LWMC team concentrated on all 21 rural UCs in Lahore. Furthermore, mechanical work was still ongoing in Shahdara and Nishtar Town’s Saeed Park, Paracha Colony, and Seraj Park. Ashiana Road, Dulo Khurd, Youhanabad, Atari Saroba, and Kamahan all received extra attention.
“In order to further improve cleanliness standards, mechanical sweeping work was also completed in Bagrian, Township, and Green Town,” he stated.
SNGPL: Teams from Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) cut off another 182 connections on Sunday and fined them Rs 10.7 million for stealing gas and other offenses. A spokesperson said that the regional team in Lahore has cut three connections for compressor use and two connections for illicit gas use.
Nine connections were cut in Multan for using a compressor, while four were cut for using gas illegally.
For using gas illegally, the SNGPL workers severed connections in Sahiwal, Gujrat, Faisalabad, nine Bahawalpur, and two Gujranwala.
The teams also fined the gas pilferers a total of Rs0.08 million.
