KARACHI: Lahore Qalandars’ ambidextrous find Yasir Jan, is set to gain the experience of bowling against top international players when he joins the nets with the England and West Indies teams next week.
“Pakistan quick Yasir Jan, who has been training with the MCC Young Cricketers and playing for Watford Town this summer, will bowl against England and West Indies during the two days leading into the third Test,” said a report in The Telegraph.
21-year-old Yasir, who was once a vegetable vendor in Islamabad, was spotted during the first edition of the Lahore Qalandars’ Rising Stars program last year. In an attempt to provide him exposure, the PSL franchise sent him to the United Kingdom for a six-week training program at the MCC.
Yasir can bowl with both arms at almost the same speed. His deliveries with the right-arm have clocked in at 145kmph, while deliveries with the left can generate pace between 135kmph and 140kmph.
Experts believe that Yasir Jan has all the potential to represent Pakistan at the top level. He is also likely to feature for Lahore Qalandars in the upcoming edition of the Pakistan Super League.
Atif Rana, CEO of Lahore Qalandars, had earlier stated that Yasir is an exceptional talent and his development is extremely important, not only for Lahore Qalandars, but also for Pakistan cricket.
“Not every individual with raw talent is discovered, and even less so, encouraged. We want to ensure Yasir has every opportunity to develop as a cricketer and hone his unique talent,” Rana had said.
“Yasir is a special talent, the only ambidextrous fast bowler of Pakistan. His development is extremely important to both us as well as for Pakistan cricket.”
