The province of Balochistan need special attention as far as the IT and telecom facilities and services are concerned. Presently, Balochistan is technology wise a least advanced province of our country. Keeping in view the fact the use of latest technology is equally important for all provinces of Pakistan, Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar while witnessing the contract signing ceremony of broadband projects in Balochistan said that:
“The government had announced different steps in the budget 2017-18 to boost the IT sector in Pakistan.”
Minister Ishaq Dar yesterday witnessed contract signing of Broadband services for Sustainable Development Projects (SDP) in Balochistan worth Rs. 2.769 billion which is awarded by the Universal Service Fund (USF) to the Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone).
Ufone and USF Sign MoU for the Provision of MBB Services in Balochistan
The contract was signed between USF and Ufone and marks the launch of Mobile Broadband Internet (MBB) Services by Ufone in Dera Bugti and Kharan-Washuk areas in the Balochistan province.
The list of un-served areas of districts Dera Bugti Lot and Kharan-Washuk Lot to get MBB services include:
- Sui
- Pir Koh
- Baiker
- Loti
- Malam
- Sangsillah
- Kohlu
- Mawand
The event was also followed by a signing ceremony for establishment of National Incubation Centres (NICs) in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar.
The contracts were signed between National ICT R&D Fund and TPL Trakker, LUMS and LMKT, respectively.
Minister of State for IT & Telecom, Ms. Anusha Rahman Khan, Secretary IT & Telecom, senior officials of Ministry of IT & Telecom, diplomats and senior executives for IT & Telecom companies were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Ishaq Dar said that:
“The development and promotion of Pakistan’s IT sector is an area of priority for the present government. The Broadband for Sustainable Development Projects in Balochistan would enable the increase of broadband coverage in the country.”
