Lt. Colonel Sultan’s reply to this letter may have stunned the Indian commander. The reply to the letter of Brigadier HS Kler was delivered to him by the same person that brought his letter, but Lt. Colonel Sultan also sent a bullet with this letter. Here is the reply of Lt. Colonel Sultan.
Dear Brig,
Hope this finds you in high spirits. Your letter asking us to surrender had been received. I want to tell you that the fighting you have seen so far is very little; in fact the fight has not even started. So let us stop negotiating and start the fight.
40 sorties, I may point out, are inadequate. Ask for many more.
Your point about treating your messenger well was superfluous. It shows how you under-estimated my boys. I hope he liked his tea.
Give my love to the Muktis. Let me see you with a sten in your hand next time instead of the pen you seem to have such mastery over,
Now get on and fight.
Yours sincerely
Commander Jamalpur Fortress.
(Lt. Colonel Ahmed Sultan)
Unsung Heroes of ISI (Inter–Services Intelligence)
The above examples are of some of our unsung heroes – those heroes that we can find in the record books of our forces; they are praised, saluted and awarded by different military awards. But there are many silent soldiers of our ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) who scarified their lives, their today for the bright future of Pakistan. They silently work for Pakistan and are considered to be our first defence line but their efforts, sacrifices, courage and love for Pakistan is not cherished nor remembered as much as they deserve, because most of their missions are of secret nature. We do not even know the names of those unsung heroes, they are not awarded with Nishaan-e-Haider and Hilal-e-Jurat, and in many cases, their loved ones do not even get their bodies, but all such things do not affect their courage; they are silently working and defending our country from the evil plans of our enemies.
Today, we are passing through difficult times in Pakistan, when all the enemies of Pakistan have joined hands in their plans to destabilized Pakistan. Today, our security forces need our support so that they can courageously fight against the enemies of Pakistan as they did in 1965.
There are many lessons in the lives of these unsung heroes. Today, we need the same enthusiasm, the same passion with which we fought the 1965 war. At that time, none of them was worried about their children, future, properties, businesses, bank balance and political affiliations. Their only aim was to defend Pakistan from the invaders and they did that. Today, we are going through the same situation, but our political leaders are busy in their political games. We hope our new governments will change this attitude, will not follow the previous governments and will try to unite the people of Pakistan to fight against the enemies of Pakistan and will help the Army to remove the disturbing groups and terrorists.
Good stories. I think what you need to do is start finding non military heroes…… like Edhi, Abdus Salam….and encourage people to be like them.
1965 war would not have happened and these people would have been alive had Pakistan not started “Gibraltar” and “Grand Slam”.
They also would have been alive had India not crossed the International borders. But Indians have this habit of pointing fingers towards others and completely unfamiliar with introspection. Don’t know till now why they din’t blamed Pakistan or ISI for the rapes in India.
