In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed across the territory, today, against the civilian killings by the Indian army and paramilitary forces in Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam, Baramulla and other parts of the territory.
Call for the strike was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership and was supported by Kashmir Economic Alliance and Kashmir Traders Manufactures Federation. All shops, business establishments, government and private offices were closed while traffic was off the road. The occupation authorities had deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength to prevent anti-India protests. In view of the strike, the authorities had also suspended train services across Kashmir. The JRL has also called for a march towards Mazar-e-Shuhada Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar on Friday to pay tributes to the martyrs of 13th of July 1931.
Hurriyat leaders and organizations including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat forum in their statements condemned the killing of five youth including two teenage boys in Shopian and at Nadihal in Sopore by the Indian troops.
Meanwhile, an Indian army commando was killed and another was injured in an attack during a cordon and search operation in Sedopora area of Kupwara district, today. A 12-year-old boy was killed and three others were injured in an explosion in Memendar area of Shopian district, today.
In Muzaffarabad, a protest rally was taken out, today, against the arrest of Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi, and her associates Nahida Nasreen and Fehmeeda Sofi and their shifting to New Delhi from occupied Kashmir by India’s National Investigation Agency. The rally was organized under the auspices of the Srinagar-based International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, headed by Muhammad Ahsan Untoo. A large number of women and children participated in the protest.
