LAHORE: In a bid to alleviate traffic woes of the residents of the provincial capital, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated on Sunday, the longest passageway known as Beijing Underpass situated on the Canal Road.
The 1.3 km-long mega project, linking to Dharampura to Mughalpura, came to completion and had official inauguration ceremony today.
The flow of traffic will resume after the inauguration ceremony.
CM Punjab also spoke to media representatives after the inauguration, he said that the project is the biggest in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the underpass was built from Mall Road to Harbanspura Road at the cost of Rs6.93 billion.
Previously known as Chubacha Underpass, the project had been renamed to commemorate the contribution of China in Pakistan’s development projects.
Earlier in the day, CM Punjab addressed a session through video link. In the session, he spoke regarding the progress of the provincial development projects, including Speedo buses.
He said that after Multan and Lahore, the Speedo bus service will be inaugurated in Lodhran and Bahawalpur.
The CM Punjab said that it was the government’s priority to provide the people of the province adequate and latest mode of transportation.
