Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited on Monday the injured of the Bahawalpur inferno incident at Nishtar Hospital Multan to convey support in their treatment.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Qamar was apprised on the treatment being received by the victims by the hospital staff.
A harrowing tragedy struck Punjab just a day before Eid on Sunday when an overturned oil tanker exploded in a huge fireball on the outskirts of Bahawalpur, killing more than 140 people and injuring scores more.
He lauded the efforts made by the civil administration, Motorway Police and Punjab Police, locals and the hospital staff to effectively handle the situation.
Gen Qamar said the a crises management is joint national responsibility, and Pakistan Army had joined hands with the civil administration in this regard.
He said there was a need to launch a national awareness campaign to avoid unfortunate incidents such as this in the future.
Meanwhile, the army chief met families of martyrs of the armed forces at the Multan garrison to appreciate the sacrifices made by their loved ones.
Earlier in the day, the COAS attended Eid prayers with troops deployed at the Line of Control.
