The Army on Tuesday contacted the Indian Army, through the hotline established between the two opposing forces, as part of a confidence building measure regarding the movement of civil and military enumerators near the Line of Control (LoC) as part of the ongoing census.
The Indians were asked to inform their ground troops about movement of census staff in areas close to the LoC, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing added that the step is aimed at ensuring safety and security of civil and military personnel following incidents of “unprovoked targeting and persistent ceasefire violations by Indian Army”.
A census team comprising civil and army personnel also visited Army House on Tuesday for registration of necessary data.
The second phase of the census in 87 Districts across the country has commenced today and will be completed on May 25 2017, added the ISPR.
With 118,000 enumerators from different departments and 175,000 army personnel, the country’s largest population census was launched on March 15 in 63 districts of the country after a delay of 19 years.
