BEIJING: The Chinese megacity of Chengdu has expanded a Covid-19 lockdown in many regions, keeping up with controls that have ground business to a stop and restricted most of its 21 million occupants to their homes.
China is the last significant economy welded to a zero-Covid procedure, packing down infection eruptions through a mix of snap lockdowns, mass testing and extended quarantines.
Chengdu, the capital of southwestern Sichuan territory, has been successfully under lockdown for seven days since detailing a few hundred Covid cases.
The action was supposed to be lifted on Wednesday, yet the regional government said in a notification that “the whole city will proceed to profoundly push forward our attack for zero local area spread”.
