ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set May 29 as the date for holding the primary period of neighborhood government surveys in Punjab.
A choice with this impact was taken at a gathering of the ECP held here on Wednesday with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in the seat.
In the primary stage, LG surveys will be held in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzzafargarh, Layyah, Khanewal, Vehari, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sialkot, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhelum and Attock.
The PTI-drove common government had disintegrated nearby bodies comprised under the Punjab Local Government Act (PLGA), 2013, in May 2019, not long after coming to control.
Be that as it may, while taking up petitions recorded by the then nearby states’ agents, the Supreme Court gave a short request on March 25 last year, pronouncing the PLGA 2019’s Section 3 ultra vires of the Constitution.
The Usman Buzdar organization in Punjab had hesitantly reestablished the neighborhood bodies in the area in October last year to conform to the Supreme Court’s structure subject to the result of its petitions looking for a survey of the judgment.

The nearby government office thus informed: “According to the short request dated March 25, 2021, of the Supreme Court and the itemized judgment in July 2021 and notices of constitution of neighborhood states under the PLGA, 2019, are therefore removed with quick impact, dependent upon result of survey petitions documented by the Punjab government, forthcoming mediation in the Supreme Court.”
As the PTI government had reproduced the nearby legislatures and selected neighborhood government overseers on May 4, 2019, exactly 30 months in front of consummation of the residency of LG agents for the most part having a place with the PML-N, the neighborhood government division had returned the nearby state run administrations’ progress to the PLGA, 2013, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s organization.
Following a point by point judgment of the Supreme Court gave in July last year, the Punjab government reestablished the neighborhood states under PLGA, 2013, on Oct 18 and the previous LG delegates had assumed control over their workplaces.
The previous LG delegates’ residency at last closed on Dec 31 and the Punjab government advised the disintegration of nearby states in the territory and selected managers till the appointment of new agents.
